The Victorian Department of Health have sent notice to SafeScript users that pregabalin, gabapentin and tramadol will be included in SafeScript from July 3.
“From Monday 3 July 2023, pregabalin, gabapentin, and tramadol will be monitored in SafeScript. This means you must take all reasonable steps to check the records and information in SafeScript before prescribing or supplying pregabalin, gabapentin, and tramadol for a patient under your care unless that patient is in an aged care facility, hospital, prison, or palliative care.
The prescription and dispensing events of pregabalin, gabapentin, and tramadol will be collected by SafeScript from 3 July 2023 onwards. SafeScript will not have any prescription or dispensing events of pregabalin, gabapentin, or tramadol that occurred prior to 3 July.
Pregabalin, gabapentin, and tramadol have been added to SafeScript in response to evidence of their harm. For further information, please see the 2021 Austin Health literature review commissioned by the Department of Health here.”
